can i use existing external DB for new Vcenter?

i've vcenter 5.5 on win2008R2 with an external SQL DB 2008 but suddenly i found the inventory service stopped i try to re-register the inventory but not succeeded, so if i install fresh copy of OS and install vcenter V6 and i'll use the same database shall i found the same inventory with the same cluster division?

Firstly, if your running 5.5, you do not want to install vCenter 6 and try to attach it to the 5.5 database. That will be a bad day.

I'd suggest calling support to get GSS involved to try and help with the current issue.

If you want to proceed, I'd be interested to know from others if you are OK to install a new server, connect it to the DB with an ODBC connection and install the same version of vCenter that you are currently running.
