blue screen after login

I have a ESXi 5.5 Upd3b

When i install a Windows 10 or Windows server 2016 on this box, it appears to be fine, but then I install vmware tools, which is still ok, but when i login it blue-screens on me.  I have tried this numerous times with the same result. The strange thing is, they run absolutely fine on my other ESXi servers, which are older builds. The problem one is a brand new hardware, build 3248547. The others are older builds, 2403361, and they run more modern operating systems like Server 2016 and Windows 10 with no Problem. It seems like it would be the other way around.

I have also tried upgrading the virtual hardware to version 10.

I have even tried starting over and installing the latest version of Vmware tools. Doesn't matter. Afterwards when i login it blue screens. It will never login no matter how many reboots.

Also tried changing scsi type to every type available.

Also tried different Nic types.

Any ideas?

Hardware is a new Dell R440 server.

Thanks in advance.

Bob

1. 5.5u3 runs out of support a year ago

2. The R440 is not supportet for 5.5

Question: Do you use the VMware Tools which comes with the esxi 5.5 or do you download the latest and greatest 10.3.10 version?

Please try Index of /45848/tools/releases/latest/windows and report.

Joerg

Yes, I tried the newest version of the tools, as well as the ones that came with 5.5.

I realize support has ended for 5.5, but it does support server 2016, so...

And the company let the vmware support lapse years ago and they are not willing to pay the $25,000 to get it reinstated.

I am surprised that the R440 is not supported. The installer i used came from Dell's website. They have a ESXi 5.5 iso that is particular to the R440.

The OS Dropdown for Support für PowerEdge R440 | Treiber und Downloads | Dell Deutschland doesnt contain ESXi 5.5 and most important its not listet on the HCL VMware Compatibility Guide - System Search
