Will hosts and virtual machines remain up if vcenter goes down?

We run vcenter  5.1.0 on a dedicated server.

We have 3 hosts within the vcenter that include 2 servers and  a SAN.

We have 14 virtual machines.

If I take down the vcenter server do I need to take down all of my virtual machines? or will they remain up under their hosts?

Thanks.

Hi Barry,

You can take down the vCenter Server no problem with that, the virtual machines will be running in the hosts.... To confirm that you can connect to the host directly using C# based vSphere Client....

Ajith

No, your VMs will/can continue running without problems, but take in mind that features that depends of vCenter like vMotion and DRS will be unavailable while vCenter is down.
