What is the backup solution you are using in your environment and how does it backs up your environment ?

Hello Team ,

can anyone guide me to sort out this . Infra details include

8 Hosts ( IBM Flex Nodes x240 ) , 1 vCenter server Appliance and a shared storage ( IBM Storwize v3700 )

I don't have any backup solution option . If anyone guide me to deploy and how you are taking backups.

you might want to try vSphere Data Protection (VDP 6)

vSphere Essentials Plus and Above license holders are entitled to use it as part of the package.

Options are fairly plentiful.  VDP, as mentioned is an Avamar based appliance which would probably do nicely in such a small environment.  Netbackup and TSM are also options, using .vmdk level backups (no guest OS agents required).  Those might be a bit costly for a small footprint though, but I believe Veeam, Backup Exec (kind of a Netbackup Lite) are also options.  Avamar also has virtual appliances that can do .vmdk based backups.

The solution really depends on your backup needs.  Do the backups need to go offsite?  Go to a Data Domain?  Go to tape?  Do you need to be able to recover data in another location?

We use Netbackup across the board.  I'm not a backup expert, but in my experience, particularly from the perspective of virtualization, Netbackup is the most capable backup solution for both physical and virtual servers... it's also one of the more expensive.

We are using Dell vRanger backup in our environment, its performance is good. Btw for small nd medium env one may also consider VDP.

TSM 7.1.3 using the new Cluster mode support for NetApp snapshot-assisted progressive incremental backups.  Works awesome.  No more dealing with all the VMware snapshot bugs from the past few years.
