make sure that your CD/DVD drive of VM is mounted with an ISO of the Guest OS that you want to install and also CD/DVD drive must be connected/Connect on power on.
Apart from this,
when you want to do interactive install of Guest OS, Power On the VM, open the Console of the VM. and just click within it.
Your local Keyboard and Mouse will be redirected to work on VM by doing this simple activity.
While Guest OS installation is going on, you won't have VMware tools yet, during that time, to navigate out from VM Console you got to use Key combination Ctrl + Alt.
with VMware tools installed, you can freely move in or out of VM Console by just moving mouse cursor.
