VMWARE ESXI 6.5

I just purchased a Synology DS418 with 12 TB of raid 5 space.

Set it up as NFS storage and I am moving all my VM off to NFS storage space. They are currently on internal dataspaces.

Had a crash the other day and it was recommended that I move the VMs to NAS Storage.  I thought it was a good idea.  Then i can move VMs from host to host faster.

So in moving them I am selecting just one data store and on a couple I noticed that when you display the VM and select the datastore tab it shows more than one datastore

I have refreshed the display several times no change.

The serer only has one disk drive defined and it point to a datastore

What is the reason I see more than one datastore?

Hi there,

One thing that I could think of is if you have an ISO mounted from a datastore. If you do this then the VM will appear as being connected to more that one datastore. NOTE: It doesn't even need to be connected to do this. Just have a datastore path to an ISO is sufficient so you need to revert it back to client device or another option.

If this is not the case then please upload the vmx file for the VM so it can be reviewed to see if there is any lingering artefacts on another datastore.

Where you configure the CD/DVD for the ISO, change the configuration to either Host Device or Client Device:

After this the “extra” datastore will not appear.

That worked for 2 of the 4 vms that have this the last two still show the two data stores.

The one with three had two cd drives set both an they where removed.

Hi there insearchof​,

Looking at the VMX's it appears both VMs are running under a snapshot.

Can you confirm that you haven't redirected the Swap file for these VMs away from the working folder:

Also confirm that /vmfs/volumes/764ff06c-085795c5 is the same datastore as your VMDKs and VMX - this can been seen either from the Shell or by viewing the Datastores Summary page.

Yes swap file location is set to default

And NFS03 above is the data store that has the vmdk amd vmx files

Yes I do but... this is not going to be something you will like

Snapshots - the ISO will have been selected at some point in the past when a Snapshot was created. Until this snapshot is deleted the "extra" datastore will still be associated with the VM.

Veeam left a lot of replication files on the VM I deleted all of them and now only one data store shows thanks
