one virtual machine prompted:configure issue : virtual machine disk consolidation needed.
I Click this virtual machine>>snapshot>>Consolidation.then about one minutes,
it failed:unable to access file<unspecified filename>since it is locked
This well know issue in VADP storage API base backup tool. this file is get locked by VPXA worker. So restart (host managegemnt connection)vpxa and hostd services on your host and re-do the consolidation 1) disable alarm that related to host connection failure and network connection failure ( in order to avoid unnecessary alarm0 2) login to host thru ssh 3) execute # /etc/init.d/hostd restart and then # /etc/init.d/vpxa restart 4) re-do the vm consolidation.
Henry,
Check the following:
1. http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1003490 -> restart the management agent on the host where the VM resides.
2. If the backup software is currently backing up the VM, stop it as soon as possible and retry.
3. Check if there is any other service/application which might have a lock on the VMDK and stop/release it.
4. Check this KB to verify what is holding a lock -> http://kb.vmware.com/kb/10051 and move the VM to the same host and retry.
Hope this helps
