Hi
I have a question about vcenter server installation 5.1 update1
If i want to install sperate DB on vm1 and the sso , inventory, vcenter server on vm2, Do i need domain controller on vm3 and vm1 and vm2 wiil be in domain or
i can set for exmple the vm1with DB,also as domain controller or the vm2 with(sso,inventory,vcenter server) can be the domain controller?Or
can i have just to vm's one DB and the second will have (sso inventory,vcenter server) without domain conroller at all!!!
Thx
It is not mandatory to have domain controller for vCenter server installation. You can go for first option or last option. Second option is not much clear to me. I usually go for 3rd option almost 60-70% time.
hi
Let me clearfy
option one
vm1= DB
VM2 =VCENTER SSO INVENTORY AND Domain controller
option two
vm1 =DB
VM2 = VCENTER SSO INVENTORY
VM3 =DOMAIN CONTROLLER
OPTION 3 NO DOMAIN CONTROLLER AT ALL
VM1=DB
VM2= VCENTER SSO INVENTORY
I would go with option 2 personally. I don't like to put anything on my domain controllers. In my eyes DC's are DC's and shouldn't be doing anything else. Others may disagree. Just my 2 cents.
Here are a few snips from the vCenter documentation website.
While it is correct that AD is not a requirement for Virtual Center, you will lose some features by running in workgroup mode.
vCenter server cannot be installed on the same server that has AD services. When running the vCenter installer you will get an error. This eliminates your first option.
