We currently have a couple of Vcenter Standard environments for our production vmware clusters. We recently bought a couple of Essentials licenses (hosts and vcenter). I'm try to avoid server sprawl where I can and would rather manage the ESXi essentials host(s) using our already built Vcenter Standard. However, I get an error when I license the host from eval to it's Essential license.
The Essentials host is a slightly newer version than the current cluster. Is this error because I need to patch up my existing vcenter? I'm not looking to gain vmotion or another feature I'm not entitled to. Just wait to create a separate datacenter mainly for permissions and a single pain of glass. Seems crazy I can't simply manage a host with a lesser license.
