VMware VirtualCenter Server service (5.5) not staying in "started" state after reboot

Hi,

I have a fresh install of vcenter 5.5 on Windows Server 2008 r2, I added my hosts and everything was working great.  Then I rebooted the server... now the service VMware Virtual Center Server constantly goes to "starting" state to "started", then back to "starting" and continuously loops.  I've seen many others having a similar issue where restarting other vmware services fixed the issue, but this hasn't worked for me.

This is the error that I'm constantly getting in the event log.

HI,

I've seen that thread and stock my vcenter server, then restarted identity management service and then secure tokens service, then starting vcenter service, but the service still fails soon after starting it up.

Some errors I'm seeing in the event log

Thanks I saw that article before.  I deleted this entry, but still the same issue.  Interestingly even though I deleted the entry then started the service, the vpxd log still says the object already exists after I started the service (confirmed it recreated itself).  Is there something else I need to turn off before removing this? or maybe a manual change in the db?

Tried setting the service to Disabled, then rebooting, then deleting the entry in ADSI edit, but once I turn on the service it fails and I still get this error for some reason:

error 'win32vpxLdap_win32'] [LDAP Client] Failed to add LDAP entry cn=XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX(edited),ou=Licenses,ou=Licensing,dc=virtualcenter,dc=vmware,dc=int: 0x68 (The object already exists.)

Does anyone know anything I can try?

Hi,

I have the same issue. Even if I deleted the DB and recreate all the DC and Cluster info, it still fails after a reboot. Has also tried everything, and only with one host and so on...

Any good answer?

Hi there,

Please make sure that Database service is running fine and database agents are active.

beacuse virtual center service is dependent on DB service.

Reply if it works.

HI, this post is quite old, but I'm having exactly the same issue and I already tried all kind of solutions proposed in this and other threads to no avail.

The only difference is probably that the machine has been switched off for almost a year and I had difficulties to start the VMwareVCMSDS service due to that. In order to restart it I had to get back the date on get server, start it up and then adjust the date and now it starts with no problems, but Venter Service do not start and I have the same messages in get log file. In had also the "LDAP cannot add" issue that I solved removing the entries using ADSI Edit , but still I have the "Instance definition not found" and "hpMetadataCache.xml" file missing as well as "Failed to create https proxy" error. Does anyone give me some direction on how to revive this machine? From the vsphere web client I see nothing at all, and the message that could not connect to the machine. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance
