VMware Tools Backwards Compatibility with vCenter

In the process of upgrading from vCenter 5.0 to 5.5. There is a possibility of software packages being scheduled and pushed before vCenter is upgraded. VMware tools v9.4.10 is part of the software package. Will VMs, controlled by vCenter 5.0, be compatible with VMware 5.5 tools installed?

You can find supported versions in the  VMware Product Interoperability Matrixes. There are currently two versions of VMware Tools available- One that comes with the ESXi hosts, and one (v10.x) which can be downloaded separately.

Like already stated by André, yes, it is supported, and for additional details about forward and backward compatibility support, take a look here: Is a VMware Tools Upgrade Required When Upgrading vSphere? - VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs
