VMware SSO web client - "Use Windows session authentication" is grayed out

"Use Windows session authentication" checkbox is grayed out in VMware vCenter SSO web client. I have installed "Client Integration plugin" many times.

Have tried in browser(IE 10.0 & 11.0) The machine is Windows Server 2008 R2.

I tried googling, didn't come up anything. Hope someone has a idea. Kindly share it.

Thanks.

vSphere 5.5 Documentation Center

see above URL, along with the procedure to follow, in there, they are asking us to disable protected mode

If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer, disable Protected Mode.

Hi,

Trun off the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration (IE ESC) in Windows Server 2008 R2 from server manager page

logff from the server and again login and check it is working with IE.

Disable Internet Explorer Enhanced.Security.Windows Server 2008 R2 - Server Manager

Is your IE 10/11 version 32-bit or 64?  If 64, try with the 32-bit version.

To resolve your issue, follow below steps:

Note: Request you to take back up before proceeding.

  1. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Client Integration Plug-in 6.0\ folder.
  2. Take a backup of the C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Client Integration Plug-in 6.0\csd-openssl.cfg file .
  3. Open C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Client Integration Plug-in 6.0\csd-openssl.cfg  file in a Text Editor.
  4. Replace the content in the csd-openssl.cfg file with the content from the attached csd-openssl.cfg file in this article.
  5. From an elevated command prompt, run notepad.exe "C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Client Integration Plug-in 6.0\csd-openssl.cfg".

Note: The permissions and file owner of the csd-openssl.cfg file will remain intact and the default permissions will be as below:
    • Owner: SYSTEM
    • SYSTEM - Full control
    • Administrators - Full control
    • Authenticated Users - Read
  6. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\VMware\CIP\csd\ folder.
  7. Take a backup of the C:\ProgramData\VMware\CIP\csd\ssl folder.

Note: This Step helps to keep the permissions and owner of the C:\ProgramData\VMware\CIP\csd\ssl folder. Default permissions will remain as below:
        • Owner: SYSTEM
        • SYSTEM - Full control - This folder, subfolder and files
        • Administrators - Full control - This folder, subfolder and files
        • Users - Read & execute - This folder, subfolder and files
        • Users - Write - This folder, subfolder
  8. From an elevated command prompt, run "C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Client Integration Plug-in 6.0\vmware-csd.exe" --install.
  9. As there will not be any output displayed on the screen, wait for 3 to 7 minutes.
  10. The C:\ProgramData\VMware\CIP\csd\ssl directory will populate with new certs within 2 minutes before it is ready for use.
If it is useful, plz mark answer as correct or helpful.
