VMware Noob importing ova file

I am new to managing vmware (I have a server in my classroom that I want to use for some IT classes).

I teach for the Cisco Network Academy and am covering a cybersecurity curriculum that includes a VM for the students to use.  I wanted to use esxi since I can create protected environments for the students to work in.  I have an ova file that Cisco provides but it is expected the students use it with VirtualBox.  I want to import it into vCenter then clone it for each of the students.

When I tried to import it I got an error about unsupported hardware.  I googled it and found http://www.baconapplications.com/export-a-virtualbox-machine-to-vmware/ but after following these instructions, it still will not work.  I was able to get the ova file to import but then on boot there was no bootable os.

Is there a better way to export from VB and import into vCenter?

Extract the ova with 7zip or WinRar.
Then attach the *.ovf file to your next reply.
