Hey all, I'm trying to convert a CentOS 6.6 Nagios server to a VM on an ESXi 5.5.0 cluster and not having any luck. When I try to start the conversion I get following error message:
Permission to perform this operation was denied
I'm using VMware vCenter Converter Standalone server Version 5.5.3 Build-2183569 and I'm trying to get the Linux server over to my VMware vCenter Server, Version 5.5.0 Build 2001466. I thought I might be using the wrong password but I can su to root just fine on the Linux server. Iptables is turned off and Selinux is disabled. I've played with the free versions of ESXi and now I'm running Essentials Plus. I've Googled this and found lots of responses but none of them fit my situation. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe B
If you are running the VMware Converter client from a Windows OS, try run using elevated privilege (Run As Administrator): http://www.jonathanmedd.net/2013/12/vmware-converter-permission-to-perform-this-operation-was-denied...

Wow, I would have never thought of that. I converted my Windows servers just fine. How does running the Converter as Administrator make a difference while converting a Linux server?
Thanks,
