VM still showing reference to old datastore after storage vMotion?

All:

We just recently configured an Equalogic SAN and connected it to our vSphere environment. We are in the process of moving our VM's to the SAN storage, off of local disk. After processing one VM, we still show the refernce to the old datastore on the summary page when looking at that VM. However, when we look at the settings, the HDD shows that the vmdk file is infact on the SAN?

Is there a reason why it would still be showing up for both?

Thanks,

1) Check if the VM has any snapshots and may be its is pointing to the old datatore

2) Check if any ISO is mounted on the VM from old datastore

Post the VM folder screenshot by browsing the old datastore

Have you stored the virtual machine swap file on the local disk or is that stored in the working directory (VM files directory)?

Have any ISO or floppy images attached to it that are still located in the local datastore?

Or do you have a snapshot on this VM?

I don't think a snapshot causes the problem because in theory a snapshot of a disk should be moved by storage vMotion along with its base disk.

Usually it's a reference with an absolute path on the displayed datastore. This could either be an entry in the active .vmx file or an entry in a backed up configuration stored in a snapshot .vmsn file.

the snapshot files are migrated to the new target datastore. But if you have attached for example an ISO from a datastore and you create a snapshot and disconnect the CD-Drive from the ISO-datastore, the ISO-datastore will be still referenced to the virtual machine in the summary view.

Aravind:

It was a refernec to an ISO on the other datastore.  I simply disconnected it, and all is good.  Sometimes we tend to overlook the obvious.

Thank you for the tip.

Hello,

Getting the same problem.

SVmotion a VM but still when going in the "virtual Machine " tap of the source DS, it display the VM.

I then found that the CD drive of the VM was connected to an ISO of the source DS.  I disconected the ISO and re-try the SVmotion to another DS.  But still the name of the VM appear in the "virtual Machine " tap of the source DS.  Then what I tried is to edit setting and change the CD/DVD drive from "Datastore ISO File " to "Client Device" and it works.

regards

Nicolas
