VCenter 6.5 High Java Memory use

Newbie to VMware. We have installed vCenter Server On a Windows 2016 Server (8GB RAM) and it's ground to a halt, a quick look at Task Manager tells me the obvious culprit it Java.exe using up 91% of total memory. Several processes open which Process Explorer tells me it's all related to vCenter Server.

I've seen a few articles relating to version 5.0 but no fixes for this behaviour in 6.5

Any thoughts please?

Cheers

Couple of suggestions:

  1. Don't even use vCenter on Windows any more as it's a platform which has reached end-of-life.
  2. Even if you for whatever reason refuse to use the vCenter Server Appliance, 8 GB is not nearly enough for vCenter to run on Windows at any scale.

@daphnissov is absolutely right.

8 GB RAM is not enough for vCenter 6.5 on Windows. Just have a look at the hardware requirements for vCenter 6.5:

Hardware Requirements for vCenter Server and Platform Services Controller on Windows

And I would also recommend switching to the vCenter appliance. It is much easier and is supported longer than the Windows alternative.

Depending on the update level of the OP's vCenter 6.5 Server he might not be able to do an upgrade to the vCSA at present. If it's u1, then he can go to 6.7 vCSA with the migration tool. If he's on u2, then he'll need to wait for 6.7u1 to come out. Going 6.5 uX to 6.5u[newer] can't be done via an upgrade/migration tool to the vCSA.
