Hi,
I'm asking for some advice as this is the first time I'm going to delete the catalina*log files from /storage/log/vmware/sso/tomcat folder as per https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/83070
I am planning to take a snapshot of the vCenter Virtual Machine before deleting the log files. Should I take the snapshot from vSphere while the VM is still powered up? Or do I need to power off the VCSA, take the snapshot from the host, power VCSA back again and then delete the files?
I would prefer not having to power off the vCenter VM, but I've read some posts saying that it's better to take a snapshot of VCSA powered down, although this article from Dell seems to suggest the opposite:
Many thanks
Ciao
Regarding taking snapshots of a vCenter I recommend this link (which you have probably already read):
https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/59230
In the past, I happened to do activities on the vCenter (for example the one you have to do) and normally as security I have:
- The backup recommended by VMware from the vCenter management GUI
- The backup of the protection software used (Veeam Backup & Replication, Cohesity etc ..)
- I take a snapshot with the active vCenter.
Obviously taking a snapshot of a VM turned on from a VM turned off certainly has some differences (for example the creation time)
