VCSA 6.0 6.5 upgrade VUM migration error

Hello all...

I'm attempting to upgrade our vcsa embedded 6.0 to 6.5 but is failing out of the gate.  Part of the process asks to copy the migration-assistant folder to the VUM and run the executable.  I'm prompted for the administrator password which I enter and receive the following. "Check that VMware vCenter Server at 'xx.xx.xx.xx' is up and running, and that the credentials are valid".

I am able to log into vCenter as root successfully via ssh so I know the password is correct.

The VUM plug-in shows enabled with a green check.

vCenter and the VUM are in the same subnet and can ping each other.

The vCenter server had to be rebuilt from scratch a few weeks ago so maybe that has something to do with this?  I have not remediated any updates however the scans and downloads appear ok.

I'm missing something somewhere here and, hopefully, can be pointed in the right direction.

Regards,

Mark J.

Try this;

  • Login your VUM server
  • Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\Infrastructure\Update Manager
  • Run the VMwareUpdateManagerUtility.exe then login.
  • Then “re-register vCenter Server”
  • Restart  :VMware Update Server Service"

Then have another go at the upgrade.

When you are prompted for the administrator user and password you must use the administrator@vsphere.local user.

Yes, I've tried both root and administrator passwords but no joy.

Tnx...
