Upgrade from 5.0 to 5.1

Hello

i am going to upgrade from 5.0 to 5.1, il want to know if i have to install vcenter, vcenter sso, inventory services and vsphere web client on the same server ?

Exactly, you can install vCenter services on the same server to do the upgrade.

Hi,

you can install all on one server, but you don't have to.

Installing it on different servers is covered in the Install and Upgrade documentation, Page 251 and following:

It totally depends on how big your environment is. If you have a big environment where there will be a large inventory and lot of people will be accessing the vcenter, then you will have to divide each role to a separate servers so that one server does not take all the load.

Our cluster is not big

12 esxi servers and 350 virtual machines

For a large environment, you should install the services on different servers. Good Luck!

Then you could have a single server and install all the components on that server. refer the below link which helps you with the simple install.
