Upgrade from 4 to 5.5

I'm in the process of upgrading a 4.0 environment to 5.5. 1st thing on the list is to upgrade vCenter. Can I install 5.5 on a new server, "take over" management from the  old 4.0 vCenter server without impacting the existing hosts?

Thanks,

MH

Now sure I am following your query:

Once you have new vCenter 5.5, you can add your old ESXi/ESX 4.0 to new vCenter without impacting any host. However, until the time you add these host to new vCenter, you will not be able to use vCenter features such DRS/DPM, performance data etc.  Once you add old host to new vCenter, you can upgrade one host at time to 5.5.

Thanks for that. If I install vcenter on a new server, what is the best way to "migrate" settings from the old?
