Upgrade Vcenter Operations license from standard to advanced

i just upgraded my VCOM licensing from standard to advanced.  i logged into myvmware page and got the new license key.  When i go to my license management on my vcenter server i see three listings when i sort by License Keys:

if i change it to Asset: i see this:

If i try and add the new license i get this error. if i try and change the license i get this error as well.

How can i add my new licensing so i can upgrade VCOM to reflect the advanced version being licensed?

Hi

The window that you are showing with errors is a wizard/window for adding vSphere Licenses.

To license a vCOps, you would need to navigate to asset (like your 2nd picture) double click the vCenter Operations Manager-1.0 then change the license from there.

VMware vCenter Operations Manager 5.8 Release Notes

vCenter Operations Manager is licensed as an asset to the vCenter Server that it monitors. You must register vCenter Operations with a vCenter Server before you assign the 5.8 license. To register vCenter Operations Manager with a vCenter Server, open the vCenter Operations Manager Administration portal and follow the procedure described in the VMware vCenter Operations Manager Deployment and Configuration Guide.

ok so the problem was the code when i logged into myvmware portal is incorrect. To find the correct code i had to drill down to downloads>all downloads>vmware vcenter operations management suite>vmware vcenter operations manager advanced 5.8.2 and the download the "VMware vCenter Operations Manager 5.8.2 license key text file" which had a completely different code in it. From there we were able to add the license key to vcenter and then go to assets right click on the vcenter operations manager and change the key to the correct one, then go and update the VCOM VA and now we are running in advanced.

Can anyway tell me why the code when i logged into my portal and selected managed licenses why that code was wrong? I was thinking maybe that came from a trial download but then why wouldn't the key that i purchased not show up there as well in that same license screen?

i did that and i got the same license error message. the problem was the code that i had obtained from myvwmare portal initially was wrong. very strange.

From your screenshot, you are having a vSphere with Operations Manager (vSOM) - vSOM comes with vCOps Standard.

And now you would like to use your new vCOps Suite Advanced license right and not using vSOM license for your vCOps?

Which vCenter version are you using?

Are you using vCenter version 4.1/5.0?

You must have at least vCenter version 5.1 tp use vCOps Suite license.

If you are running vCenter version 4.1 or 5.0 then you won't be able to use the license instead you would need to use the license key text file.
