Update to vCentre 6.5 U1 fails

Hi all,

Hoping someone can shed so light on this.

I have vCentre 6.5.5600 installed currently, now this updated via the backend page at :5480.

I am trying to update the same way to 6.5 U1 and on the :5480 page I get "stage failed" on checking for updates.

When trying to manually update with "software-packages install --iso --acceptEulas" I get the following;

error: rpmdb: BDB0113 Thread/process 1336/140134521845504 failed: BDB1507 Thread died in Berkeley DB library

error: db5 error(-30973) from dbenv->failchk: BDB0087 DB_RUNRECOVERY: Fatal error, run database recovery

error: cannot open Packages index using db5 -  (-30973)

error: cannot open Packages database in /var/lib/rpm

[2017-08-23T06:21:15.235] : Installation process failed

I have never seen this before, I did have a couple of power outages on the vCentre box though.

How do i run a DB_RUNRECOVERY ?

Is this consistant with the "stage failed" error from 5480?

Any information would be great.

Regards

Stuart

This looks like a setup issue, could you check the following and try again:

  1. Your hard disk is having enough space (df -h)
  2. Check if the ISO downloaded is having valid checksum.
  3. Try online patching is possible.

If nonw of them worked, you can check the complete log @ /var/log/vmware/applmgmt/software-packages.log for more details.

An old thread but the same symptoms I had upgradeing from VCSA 6.5 U1 > U2.

ssh to VCSA and login as root

> shell

# rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db*

Check for updates through VAMI and now it works.

I could not get my vCenter to see the updates either via CD or URL until I did that rm command, took me quite awhile to finally find this as the fix. Thanks for posting that!

This worked for me. Also make sure you're using a compatible patch or it will still show as not there.
