Hi experts

i have attached baseline to two of my esxi hosts. when i scan the host i can see two options.

1. patches and extensions

2. upgrades.

my plan is to go with patches and extensions on esxi hosts and vmware tools on virtual machines

i have 10 virtual machines on two hosts, so i can upgrade tools manually .

so if i go with patches and extensions do esxi hosts get latest vmware tools so that i can upgrade the virtual machines.

Yes, your plan is correct. Once you patch the ESXi hosts via VUM and if vmware tools update available, it will show in vm summary page as tools out of date, where you can update tools manually later.

i am selecting patches and extensions not upgrades.

will patches and extensions have latest vmware tools

It depends on how vmware releases, generally only major updates will have the vmware tools update.
