Trying to update vCenter Server Appliance 6 to 6U1B

I have a standalone PSC/VCSA 6.0 Build 3073146 and I can't login via ssh as the instructions say to per Updating vCenter Server Appliance 6.0 to Update 1 - VMware vSphere Blog - VMware Blogs

It keeps telling me my Username and Password are invalid. I have tried root and administrator@vsphere.local

I found another article on resetting root password but I can't log into the VAMI ... it also tells me my credentials are no good and the account is locked from 19 failed attempts. I have tried maybe 10 times ... where is coming up with 19?

VMware KB: VMware vCenter Server Appliance 5.5 and 6.0 root account locked out after password expira...

I have also tried changing the reset counter, the lock out timer and the how many passwords it remembers tricks to no avail.

So I hunted again to found another article on how to get on to the appliance using vSphere Client console to access VCSA and use the GRUB Password but the VMRC won't connect. Shocking!

I tried a freshly loaded laptop installed vSphere client and it will connect but it won't display anything until it has passed the screen I need to hit [Space bar] + [P]

I'm at my wits end & head is now throbbing ... VMware, why do you keep changing the stupid upgrade methods? Why make it such convoluted mess? Why make the Administrator password timeout on the device that controls your Cluster?

It's IT man! We work smarter, not harder ... WTF?

Should I just remove my VM host from vCenter and start from scratch? Anyone have any thoughts on this?
