The remote vcenter single sign on server is not reachable

I'm trying to upgrade vCentre server 5.5 to 6.0, but get the error "the remote vcenter single sign on server is not reachable".

See below for details.

Can anyone help?

What is your vCenter architecture on 5.5? Are you using a separate SSO box than the one on which vCenter is installed?

All the services are on the same machine. The thing is wireshark and procmon show that it isn't even trying to perform any sort of TCP / UDP connection to itself or another server.

All the services are on the same machine, I would of thought it would of been able to talk to itself?

Are you covered under support from VMware?

Yes had a support case open for about a week now, they haven't managed to get anywhere.
