Template to VM deployment is very slow on FC datastore

1. My environment is having vCenter Server 5.5 and couple of vSphere Servers 5.5 . I have couple of Windows and Linux templates with 20GB thin HDD, 1GB RAM, 1NIC card, 1 vCPU.

2. Entire setup is in domain

3. I have created cluster and enable DRS on it.

4. 1 TB FC LUN is mounted as datastore

Issue:

1. If I deploy VM from template on this FC datastore then it takes around 40 to 50 mins to deploy. Which is very high. Till 38% it is very fast and then it takes 40-45 mins to complete deployment.

2. If I deploy VM from template on local storage then it takes around 5 to 10 mins. Which is normal.

Need to know,

1. This is network or storage issue?

2. How can I troubleshoot this issue?

If anyone is facing same issue then please suggest.

Where the template is stored ? What is the type of disks in your storage array (ex: SAS, FC, SSD, SATA) ?

I think you should start the troubleshoot in your SAN, check HBA port utilization, the LUN I/O and throughput, etc...
