Super Newbie.. Benefits of Vcenter on one host?

So I've only got one host with 7 VMs but a buddy of mine said to install Vcenter to manage these VMs. So now I did but I wanted to know what benefits I just gained by doing this?

I log into Vcenter to use my VMs versus my Hypervisor IP now.

At the same time I am trying to learn as much as I can about VMware stuff...

Thanks in advance!!

Hi

Some features that are only available via vCenter e.g.:

- Cloning a VM

- Creating a VM Template

- Storage vMotion (if you have multiple storage/datastores)

- Single Sign-On (with AD or LDAP)

- vSphere Web Client

- Update Manager

- etc

VMware vCenter Server, Virtualization Management Software Features

VMware KB: New features in VMware vSphere 5.5

But yes vCenter would be more useful when you have multiple hosts to manage and vCenter requires a license.

If you don't have any vCenter license, you can download and try an evaluation license see and decide after evaluating vCenter.
