Shutting down vCenter management SQL server, any impact to vCenter Management server?

Hi guys,

Just a quick question please.

We are planning to shut down the SQL server for the vCenter, and perform some VM spec increase on the SQL server. So to do it as clean as possible, do we need to stop the VMware vCenter related services on the management server as well? Is there any particular order to shutdown thesr VMware vCenter related services?

Thank you.

Yes, Please stop vCenter services.

here's the official KB explaining that in case of maintenance activity, what would be the order of stopping services and then let the db server come back on before you start vCenter services

Yes it is recommended to stop all services related to vCenter. If you do not do this, VPXD will timeout trying to reach the DB and create a lot of errors.

As far as the dependencies are concerned, they will mostly be taken care in the service itself as dependent services will be brought down first.

Also, go through the KB article Narendra has provided.
