Sharing SQL server for all VMWare services

Eventually we plan to have the following VMWare products installed.

  • vCenter
  • Update Manager
  • SRM
  • vCloud
  • Orchestrator
  • vCAC

Is there anything published that shows the best practices for sharing a single SQL instance for each of these services?

I figured out most of my question. I had to dig through each of the published documentation for each service.

vCenter - Can be on shared SQL instance

Update Manager - Can be on shared SQL instance

SRM - Can be on shared SQL instance. But cannot share a SQL instance with another SRM install. We have a multi-site SRM install so we'll need multiple SQL instances.

vCloud Director - The documentation doesn't call out if it can be on shared instance. It just says that database performance is important for vCloud Director to run well and scale. So I assume it can be on a shared instance as long as it's configured for performance.

Orchestrator - uses the vCenter database so this doesn't matter.

vCAC - The documentation doesn't call out that it can be on a shared instance. But it allows you to use Express so I assume it would be fine using a shared instance.

Anyone have any specifics on if VMWare allows vCloud Director or vCAC use a shared DB instance?
