I need to make a manual backup of the POSTGRES DB due to stale licenses issue.

    http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=2054008

To do this I need to take a manual backup of the DB prior to making changes which requires I stop the VMware Server Services on the appliance. What are the possible issues with stopping these services?

    Hello,

completely safe to restart the vcenter services (process vxpd).

Just the sessions of the connected users to the vcenter will be dropped.

    Take a look to this:

VMware KB: Stopping, starting, or restarting vCenter Server Appliance services

    Best regards,

    Pablo

Its completely safe restarting vCenter service. No VC level settings will be lost due to VC restart (I have done it several times).

When VC service is stopped, no VC feature will be working. Once it starts, everything will be all right.
