Restart the vcenter service error

Hi guys,

For some reasons, I must change the IP address of vcenter server. Then I cannot login the vcenter with vsphere client in local system.

Then I restart the service of vercenter, but an error pops up. And the log is attached. I wonder why there are some JA characters in the log.

What is  the error cause the service down and not able to restart?

Who can help me. Many thanks!!!

Hi,

i think you have a problem with your SSO ,Failure while trying to connect to SSO Admin server: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.  . Will retry in 10 seconds.

Try this VMware KB: After making a change or restarting Single Sign On server system, vCenter Server 5.1.x fa...  & Check here : Unable to start vCenter Server Services : Trying to start service VPXD [try 2]: Time out has expired...

Is your SSO configured on the same server, from the error look like SSO related error,

check http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=203617...

Hi Julien

Thank you in advance. The article is really long and multi-step's, complicated.:smileylaugh:

The problem is that I am not able to  login Vsphere web client

To remove the Inventory Service account:

  1. In the vSphere Web Client, go to Administration.
  2. In SSO Users and Groups, click Application Users.
  3. Delete the Inventory Service account.

Oh sorry , but i think only this step was necessary.  Reregister vCenter Inventory Service with vCenter Single Sign-On

Did you try to restart the vcenter now? still have the issue?

Otherwise, i found this, on and it should be ok.VMware KB: Update vCenter Single Sign-On settings after you change the host name or port of the data...

Yes, I restart the server several times, But I sill cannot restart the vcenter service.

Ok, I will try the method you mentioned at first. And the worst situation is that I reinstall the vcenter with the new IP.

Many thanks.

Hello guys,

1.Now I change the port to 0 . The command works, details are as deblow:

C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\SSOServer\utils>ssocli configure-riat -a
configure-db --database-host WIN-LSL7MQJ7S8H --database-port 0 -m 3edc$RFV

Executing action: 'configure-db'

Updating Database configuration
Generating HA node package

Successfully executed action: 'configure-db'

2. I also edit the config.properties file.

3. Restart the SSO service successfully and restart the virtual vcenter server service

4. But the error pops up again.:smileycry: Log is attached

The password you are using appears to be wrong for database user - RSA_USER which you gave during your installation.

Something like this

Ah .. our responses crossed ..

Good, now that you have your SSO running properly you need to follow the section "Register vCenter Server with a different vCenter Single Sign-On instance" in

VMware KB: Repointing and reregistering VMware vCenter Server 5.1.x and components

repoint.cmd configure-vc --lookup-server lookup_service_url --user single_sign_on_admin_user --password single_sign_on_admin_password --openssl-path "path_to_OpenSSL_bin_directory/"

Note: If you installed vCenter Server in a location other than the default, you must add this option to the repoint command:

--vc-install-dir "path_to_vCenter_Server_install_directory"

The openssl-path path must be enclosed in quotation marks and followed by a trailing forward slash. The openssl-path parameter is required to update the trust store with the new Lookup Service and Single Sign-On certificates. If you do not provide it, the command will execute successfully, but you must manually update the certificate trust store. See the information about updating the certificate trust store for vCenter components in the VMware tech note, Replacing Default vCenter 5.1 and ESXi Certificates.

Use this example as a model:

repoint.cmd configure-vc --lookup-server https://machinename.corp.com:7444/lookupservice/sdk --user "admin@System-Domain" --password "SSO_pw1!" --openssl-path "C:\Program Files\VMware\Infrastructure\Inventory Service\bin/"
