Removing cluster of ESXi hosts from failed vCenter 6.7 in order to add to new one

Need to disconnect ESXi hosts from a failed powered off vcenter and add to a newly provisioned vcenter. Version is 6.7 U3 for both old and new. DRS/HA was configured. Standard vSwitches.

ESXi hosts are currently up and running workloads that need to stay powered on.

Is it possible to perform the disconnect operation and relocate the ESXi hosts to a new vcenter without powering them off or do I need to put them into maintenance mode or something else?

I didn't do this for a long time myself, but it should work to add the hosts to the new vCenter Server on the Datacenter level (no need to disconnect them from the old vCenter), and move them to the Cluster once added.
