Recommendation: SQL Native Client Driver for Setup Guide

Hi everyone,

I am in the process of installing the vCenter Server along with the SSO and IS.

My Setup:

. One dedicated MS SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 VM providing the database functionality.

. One dedicated vCenter Server VM including the Single Sign On Server and Inventory Service.

My Recommendation:

I recently stumpled upon the problem of having to provide the vCenter Server Setup with a 64bit-DSN for database connection.

In case you have a freshly installed Windows Server 2008 R2 instance, like me, their is no 64bit SQL Native Client Driver installed on your system. In this case you need to download and install the driver from Microsofts Download Center.

You find the corresponding driver within the "Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 Feature Pack" in section "Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 R2 Native Client".

Or you just search for "sqlncli.msi" and select the X64-Paket.

Once you found it, just download it, install it on the vCenter Server VM and you are ready to add the 64bit-DSN with the needed SQL Native Client Driver.

liontooth out!

Ah... before I forget:

Would be nice to find this in the setup guides.
