As per KB1010675 Upgrade VMware Tools. On Microsoft Windows virtual machines, if you upgrade the virtual hardware before you upgrade VMware Tools, the virtual machine might lose its network settings. Is it same issue with LInux VM's as well?

Yes this will potentially be the same depending on the Linux Distro. VMware tools provides the drivers required for the network adapters.

If VMware have upgraded the hardware for networking and new drivers are required you could end up losing connectivity until the new VMtools have been installed.

But KB States about Windows for Linux it is not written anywhere
