Question about using a standalone VMware Update Manager server

We are currently running vSphere 5.5 Update 2 on our environment and have Update Manager installed on our vCenter server.  Our vCenter server is a phyical server with approximately 80GB of local storage remaining.  I believe the recommendation for Update Manager is 120GB.  Due to a new security initiative within our organization, we need to stay more up to date with VMware patches, especially security patches.  We are looking at possibly setting up a standalone Update Manager virtual machine with 200GB of storage and disable the update manager services on the vCenter server and unregister that one with vCenter.  Would there be any issues with this configuration?  I guess another question would be, when actually applying patches or updates to ESXi hosts using a standalone Update Manager server, are those updates / patches still copied to the vCenter server and still utilizing disk space on the vCenter server?

Our other option would be to keep Update Manager on our vCenter server and add a fiber card to our vCenter server then zone a LUN for more storage, then repoint the patch store for Update Manager to that new drive.  Just trying to determine which would be the best option.

Thanks
