Question: How to create an http redirect in VCSA 6.0

HI all,

I'm not even sure that this is advisable if it is even possible, but here goes.

I am using VCSA 6.0. Company policy/practice requires the VM and DNS names to be...unfriendly. I'm looking for a way to change this.

I want to have my admins be able to go to http://vcenter (or something similar) and have it redirect to the proper name (https://unfriendly-name.company.com).

A DNS CNAME or A record will not accomplish this, since a Certificate error is presented. I was thinking of using an http redirect on the VCSA web server component. The idea here is that browsing to http://vcenter (with its own DNS A record) would then get redirected by the web server to the proper https://unfriendly-name.company.com.

Has anyone tried this? Anyone know how to do this? Is there another alternative method (3rd-party products/software are not an option).

Environment:

VCSA 6.0, Microsoft AD 2008 with integrated DNS, IP v4
