Hi All,
Was just thinking about an scenario. and want to know your suggestions on it.
1) Assume a vmware cluster with 4 esxi on it. with all set.Only DRS is configured on it. Containing 100+ no of vms.
2) Now if HA will be configure in to that cluster what will be the impact on the vms? Any outage will be there?
Thanks.
Hi,
No outage on VM's. Just ensure that you keep a check on the VM monitoring and everything should be good.
Thanks,
Avinash

Avinash is damn correct.
HA is a feature wcich is designed to tolerate HOST failure to restart the VMS of failed host to active healthy host.
I would suggest to keep disable VM monitoring under HA section, side effect of keeping it enabled would be HA would reset the machines if it does not receive vmware tools heartbeat. Check this KB
Hi Friend,
There should not be any impact on VMs. Only make sure you configure HA in a such way that it avoids DRS opportunities for load balancing. i.e. Plz make sure you understand impact of each HA config/option before configuring the same.
I recommended to read below guide for HA/DRS performance guide for better insight.
http://www.vmware.com/pdf/Perf_Best_Practices_vSphere5.5.pdf
Plz search for DRS /HA/DPM best practices. It gives you lot of details on how need to configure DRS HA for better performance.
