Properly shut down vCenter Server appliance

Ive shut it down before using just the vsphere client, but then after i try to login to vsphere online, via the HTML5 version, i get a error for no server at destination. How can i properly shut it down so when i turn it back on it functions correctly?

When you restart the vCenter Server all the services and their dependencies boot in the correct order. So i would say that you just have to reboot it like every linux.

Considering you have an Embedded deployment of course.

You have two options:

1 - Connect directly to the ESXi host, using the vSphere Client, which is hosting the VCSA, and then select Shutdown Guest.

2 - Log in to the vCenter Server Appliance Management Interface as root.

Procedure

  1. In the vCenter Server Appliance Management Interface, click Summary.
  2. Click Reboot or Shutdown to restart or power off the virtual machine.
  3. In the confirmation dialog box, click Yes to confirm the operation.
