Problem installing vCenter 7 in ESXi 7

When installing vCenter 7.0.0.10300 I get this error in the UI:

rpminstall: 2021-09-14t00:13:53.738z: failed to install vmware-vdtc-7.0.0-16189094.x86_64.rpm. Check /var/log/firstboot/cloudvm.log.

In the console I get:  Failed to install vmware-vdtc-7.0.0-16189094.x86_64.rpm

cloudvm.log  is long but here a fatal error seems to be:  "You are required to change your password immediately (password expired)"

In the configuration steps, I did enter a new password?!

Anybody have any ideas?

Is this an upgrade or new install? Ideally root password expires in 90 days after deployment unless changed. This should not be the case with new deployment .

If its an upgrade. Try logging to the existing VC VAMI page ( https://vc-fqdn:5480) .

If you think your queries have been answered

Sorry, should have been more explicit, its a new install via appliance.

I'm just not sure what else to do, I can't really get in the middle of the process to change the password.

I did and have tried to change it after the appliance started first time, but the .rpm still does not get installed - its too late by then.

Do the .rpm files get cleaned up at the end of the install?  I could not find any inside the VM.

Thanks
