Power Loss equate to Data Loss???

I am currently running ESXi 5.5 and vCenter with 6 virtual machines or so on a single host with its own internal storage.

We recently had a power failure and found that the host/storage server was running but the vm's were not.  After further review I discovered they were prompting if they were moved or copied.  I selected copied for each and they all began to start and everything seemed fine.  Not sure why this happened?

One server seemed to lose a valuable directory and I can not explain it for the life of me.  This server was not a snap shot of any kind and has been up and running for almost a year.  Im trying to explain to the developer what happened and I am really at a loss.  Thank you.

I'm trying to follow along with this article, wondering if anyone could give me some help with the syntax?  I already have the ssh session configured.

Also while browsing the datastore I have a file named servername.vmdk, servername-5242c808.vswp, servername.vmx.lck, vmx-servername-1380108296-1.vswp and a log file attached with the data and time of the power failure.  Please help!  June 11 at 2:12 pm.

If it is a loss due to power outage, then it should corrupt the entire disk file not one particular directory inside the virtual machine. If you have lost particular directory then there could be a snapshot which is missing now.
