Possible to remove a VM's Advanced Configuration paramter?

I tried editing the vmx file but that does reflect changes in the GUI (vCenter V6.7). I'm assuming the only way to remove an advanced parameter is to edit the vmx then re-add the virtual to vCenter?

Do you have tried the command indicated in this VMware KB?

Reloading a vmx file without removing the virtual machine from inventory (vmware.com)

Reload the VM while it is still powered off.
