One host not compatible with vCenter windows version but is with appliance version

Hi, I have 3 - v5.5 hosts.

I've installed the vCenter Server Appliance version 5.5 u3, and all three hosts can be added.

I installed the vCenter Windows version (Web client, etc), and when trying to add the three hosts, host1 says "vCenter does not support hosts of this type"

Here are the version numbers of my hosts:

host1: 5.5.0, 1331820

host2: 5.5.0, 2068190

host3: 5.5.0, 2068190

Is there a minimum version number that I must be at to work with web-version vCenter?

Are you trying to add the ESXi host with FQDN or IP address?

Can you do nslookup and check if the FQDN is resolvable..If not, you can use IP address and try adding it.

Thanks,

MS

Hi Msripada,

Got it working - was indeed a dns / name resolution issue.

Thank!
