Ok to Rescan Storage Directly on ESXi host?

Hello,

We're still running vSphere 6.5 with the scaled back HTML5 web client.  Will be upgrading soon but I need to add a datastore to our current deployment.  It looks like you can't rescan storage from this 6.5 client web gui any more.  Would there be any harm in rescanning storage directly from each ESXi hypervisor?

Thanks!

I can't remember the limits of the older html5 clients, but rescan I thought was always there. If not yes you can do it from the esxi host, and you can also use powershell using this

Get-VMHost | Get-VMHostStorage -RescanAllHba

Thanks, sjesse.  Yeah, I've right-clicked on a host and clicked Storage but 'New Datastore' is the only option.  In the newer client you should see 'Rescan' there as well.

Thanks also for the PS tip!

A rescan is also possible with the storage adapter selected in <ESXi host> -> Configure -> Storage Adapters.
