Not able to connect Vmware EXSi (VMware-VMvisor-Installer-5.5.0-1331820.x86_64.iso) server from my VMware vSphere Client

Hi All,

I have successfully installed the  Vmware EXSi server and tried to connect it from VMware vSphere Client. But getting below error. I have given my machine IP address in IP address box.

Error - vSphere client could not connect to "10.3.77.74"

An unknown connection error occurred . (The request failed because of a connection failure )(Unable to connect to the remote server))

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Are you trying to connect to the ESXi host or the vCenter server, I see that you are using a non-root user account? I presume that you are trying to login to the ESXi host and if this is the case, use root and the password that you provided during installation.

To troubleshoot the issue check for the following:

Network connection between the ESXi host and the client PC. Can you ping the ESXi host from the client PC?

Login to the ESXi host console using ILO and press F2 and restart the management network. If this still does not work, then login to the ESXi shell using ALT F1 and check the /var/log/hosd.log for any errors.

Hi Arun,

Thanks for your quick reply. I am still getting the same error by login with 'root' and password. My client PC and and the ESXi host is same machine.

Did you install ESXi using VMware workstation? If yes, check the network settings for the ESXi VM. If the client IP and the ESXi host IP is the same, you may use a bridged netowrk.

Are you running Windows XP on the Client machine? In this case take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2049143 to see how to fix this.

Hi Andre,

I have followed the instruction given in the http://kb.vmware.com/kb/2049143  , but not succeeded :smileyplain:. I have successfully changed the config.xml file by adding  <cipherList>ALL</cipherList> and restarted it also by adding this command '/etc/init.d/rhttpproxy restart' .
