I connected to an ESXi 5.1 Server from the standard vSphere Client.
I created a vCenter 5.1 VM. At the top of the Windows VM on the vSphere client, there are small icons to connect a CD/DVD, Floppy, and USB. I can connect my PCs local USB drive to the VM and move files.
I installed the required 5.1 applications and installed the web client.
However, when I log on to the vCenter Server from the web client, I cannot connect my PCs local USB drive to the VM.
The only options I see in the web client hardware screen are CD/DVD and Floppy.
Under VM settings, there is no USB Client.
Is it possible to connect a local USB drive on a PC to a VM under the 5.1 web client?
thanks
Hi,
first, you have to add USB Controll, and then USB device in VM settings.
by the way, why you have to connect USB driver to your PC then connect it to hosts in ESXi?
thanks

Hi
Welcome to the communities.
Could you please run below command :
/etc/init.d/usbarbitrator start
VM uses the same ESXi USB port in which it resides.
Thx

arbitrator is running..
let me add some more detail..
attached are two screen shots,
first one shows the traditional vSPhere client connected to vCenter.
From the traditional vSPhere , I can connect a USB device that is plugged into my desktop PC
Second screen shows teh vSPhere Web Client. When I click on the USB client, I do not see the USB device that is plugged into my desktop PC.
I am not in the same location as the ESXi Server and this would allow for trasferring files to a VM.
It would be nice if someone would have an answer.
I have the same issue and can't figure out why.
