NO vCenter Servers listed on install

We are working to setup an update manager for our two hosts. I have always used the vCenter Server appliance, but it can't update a host it's running on.

With that in mind, I have decommissioned the appliance and am installing a new vcenter server 5.5 instance on Windows Server 2012 R2 from scratch. Everything seems to install correctly and I can log into the web client. However, when I go to configure everything, there are no vCenter Servers listed so I can't create a datacenter. I"m hoping there is something obvious I'm missing...?

Did you login using the administrator@vsphere.local account?

With only two hosts in the environment, you may consider to patch/upgrade the hosts manually from the command line. It's actually a single command to do this (unless you have specific drivers/tools installed).
