Multiple vCenter database on same server

Hi All,

I am in process of migrating vCenter 5.1 to vCenter 5.5.

Is it possible to use same SQL2008R2 server for vCenter 5.5 database?

Will installing vCenter 5.5 database to same server as vCenter 5.1 will corrupt 5.1 database? Should I use different database?

What is the best way to secure the database of vcenter 5.1 during installing of vcenter 5.5 other that backup of 5.1 database?

Also does SSO need seprate database ?

Thank you....

If you are going to upgrade your vcenter server to 5.5 from 5.1 , you may go for following options

1. Upgrading vc5.1 to vc5.5 using existing database, database schema will be upgraded accordingly. Recommended to take a backup of database before upgrading vc.

2. Install vc5.5 with new database. You can create a new databae on same SQL2008R2 server and point to the database while installing vcenter server.

SSO in vc 5.5 does not require Sql RSA database anymore.
