Migrate to new vcenter appliance from Windows

We are looking to migrate our vcenter server 6.0 running on Windows server to the vcenter appliance 6.7 but would like to do so without using the migration tool. Instead we want to deploy a completely new 6.7 vcenter appliance and was wondering about how to go about migrating the hosts and vms once the new appliance is configured. Also, the current Windows vcenter has standard switches and would like to use distributed switches in the new environment. Any guidance on how to go about this migration would be greatly appreciated.

If you're not using distributed switches right now, your migration path is pretty simple. I authored an article about this very same type of "swing" style migration which I'd strongly recommend you read first here.
