Mails Not going from Vcenter

Hello,

I have configured emails to be sent on generation of alerts from our domain whose mailing services is hosted on google mailing services . This email notification generation is for alerts when VM CPU/Memory crosses its threshold value, but as of yet i have not received a single mail regarding these alerts. Can anyone please help in the same matter. We have configured our domains mailing services in a manner that it allows anonymous mails to be sent from the domain . Also, ping and telnet connectivity to gmail is happening without any issue. Kindly help in the matter

Thanks

Are the mails not coming for only these alerts?

Is the CPU threshold actually getting crossed?

Hi,

Are the mails not coming for only these alerts?

The mails are not coming at all as they are configured only for these alerts.

Is the CPU threshold actually getting crossed?

Yes the CPU threshold was far beyond the alert level.

To find out whether this is an issue with vCenter Serer not sending the mails or you mail service not relaying/forwarding them, you may want to troubleshoot this issue step by step. First verify all the email settings (SMTP server address, ports, sender/recipient email address, ...) are correct. If all of the settings seem to be ok, use a local email serer to check whether vCenter generates/sends the mails (using e.g. smtp4dev for testing). If the mails arrive, you need to check with your mail hosting service, it not double check vCenter Server settings.

Hi,

The SMTP server address, port, sender and recipient address is configured properly, as the sender as well as receiver are all based in the same domain, as also the mailing records are of google mailing services. As per the mentioned earlier do i need to keep the port 25 open even on the local server where V center is also installed so that the mails are sent. Please clarify, as there is another application installed on the same which is working fine and is sending mails without any issue. As of now we have not opened the port 25 on local server.

Thanks

In order to send emails via SMTP you need to allow outgoing traffic on port 25 (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1012382)

Hi

Welcome to the communities.

you are in right track , What I assume you have already open port 25 .

please do telnet and check , if still having problem please share your domain or mx record.
