  • 1.  Linux cloning not working

    I'm working on a VCenter Server version 6.0. When I try to clone any of the Linux VMs the clone fails with "invalid configuration for device '13'" about 78% of the way through the clone. Cloning one of the MSWindows VMs works properly. The machine I have been testing this on has the latest version of VMWare Tools installed. I have also removed all snapshots, but that didn't change anything. I can copy the VM folder to the same or another datastore and get a working VM. I just can't clone them. Can anyone help me understand what is going on?

    Are you using a configuration with Distributed Switches?

    The error seems very similar to that described in the following article;

    Cloning a virtual machine fails with the error: Invalid configuration for device device_number (2006809) | VMware KB

    I accept that this doesn't mention your version of vSphere, However,  the solution might be worth a shot.

    Hope this helps

    Thanks for the lead. We aren't using distributed switches, but I will still try to disconnect the LAN connection and retry the clone. Maybe it will shed some light on the cause.
